Criminal justice includes the study of criminal behavior, exploring its causes, effects, prevention, and intervention, as well as social, legal, and institutional responses to crime. The Criminal Justice Program provides multidisciplinary study of the structure, administration, and dynamics of the criminal justice system, a network of agencies at the local, state and federal levels. Courses examine theories of offending and victimization, as well as components of the criminal justice process, such as policing, the courts, and corrections. The program strongly promotes critical thinking on the competing ideologies of crime, social responses to crime, and the disparities evident in the criminal justice system.

The Criminal Justice degree program consists of 60 credits, and upon completion of requirements, students are awarded an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. The Criminal Justice Program provides students with a solid foundation necessary to continue their education through pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree, and higher, providing readiness for a range of career options. Upon degree completion at BMCC, students may apply to transfer anywhere. This includes transfer opportunities supported by articulation agreements with other colleges, including the option to seamlessly transition to John Jay College through the CUNY Justice Academy, or to transfer to Alfred University, or Metropolitan College of New York.
