The Nursing Department (Accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Inc. and registered by the New York State Education Department [HEGIS CODE 5208.10]) offers a program that prepares students to become competent members of the healthcare team, qualified to render effective nursing care in health service agencies, hospitals, and community and long-term care facilities. The nursing program is a combination of classroom theory and practice of clinical skills in selected health care facilities and in the College nursing skills and simulator laboratories. Graduates are well prepared to be collaborative health care participants responsible for facilitating maintenance of health, improvement of health status, prevention of illness and alleviation of suffering.

Upon successful completion of 65 credits, the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree with a major in Nursing is granted and students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). Additionally, to qualify for a license as a registered professional nurse, applicants must be of good moral character and at least eighteen years of age. All applicants who have been found guilty of a crime and/or have pending criminal charges (felony or misdemeanor) must submit a letter to the Office of the Professions of New York State giving complete explanation. The applicant’s eligibility for licensure will then be determined.
