This liberal arts elective is an introductory course to the Chinese language and culture through text, discourse, and films. The course is geared to the understanding of present day problems of post-socialist China. Topics include Chinese dialects, literature, arts, gender, food, media, education, etc. Materials are drawn from a mixture of news and scholarly articles, as well as documentaries. All assignments and term papers are in English. This course does not fulfill language requirement.
